Creating Supply Chain Magic

Creating supply chain magic

Jarred Syputa, Sr. Logistics Analyst, talks logistics and Harry Potter in this #meetFlexe interview.

Key Takeaways

  • Jarred wanted to work at a fast-paced startup and came to Flexe as a referral.
  • His background in account management taught him how to work with diverse personalities and build something that’s best for a team.
  • He appreciates that logistics operations happen under the radar but make a huge impact.

What’s your role at Flexe? #

I’m a Senior Logistics Analyst on our Operations team. I help manage the workflows across our enterprise, eCommerce, and industrial goods accounts to ensure operations run smoothly and our customers are happy.

Why did you choose to work at Flexe? What makes your team great? #

I came to Flexe as a referral from a good buddy, Victor Caceres. He always talked so highly about his work and the Flexe business model. The company values are an ideal fit for me, and I’m drawn to fast-paced startup environments. Each day, something new comes along and keeps the work we do from ever getting boring.

My colleagues at Flexe embody the definition of “team.” I’ve never worked with a better bunch of people. We support each other to make sure nobody gets left behind, especially as our roles as logistics analysts constantly evolve.

Are there any lessons you learned from your past roles? How do they apply to your role at Flexe? #

No matter where you work, you can always learn something. I previously worked in account management, which taught me that what might be best for one individual might not be best for another. As a leader and partner, you must adapt from person to person and learn how your interactions affect not just yourself but your company. A strong, healthy partnership is not granted; it’s earned. Every interaction offers an opportunity to improve.

What makes logistics exciting? And, what do you think people would be surprised to learn about the industry? #

The recent growth of eCommerce drastically changed the face of logistics. Before working in logistics, I never thought about how packages I ordered online got from ‘point A’ to ‘point me.’ Most people don’t. Logistics runs modern life without many people realizing it. Each package passes through borders, flies on planes, hops on trucks, and eventually lands at your doorstep. The most surprising thing to learn about logistics is how far your consumer goods travel.

What are your hobbies outside of work? #

As a Pacific Northwesterner, I like to hike, attend live music shows, go cider and wine tasting, and travel. Seattle doesn’t see a lot of sun, but when it does, I tend to take full advantage of it.

What organizations are important to you and why? #

I’m an eco-friendly person and passionate about organizations that help promote clean energy and reduce plastic use. I admire companies like 4ocean, which removes plastic from our oceans. Working in logistics, I see how excess packing materials can be overly wasteful. Meanwhile, I’m encouraged by the companies that prioritize environmentally friendly packaging.

What fictional character would you be and why? #

It may sound dorky — Harry Potter. He made a huge impact on me growing up. The fact that this boy who lost everything before he could speak grows up to be the savior of the wizarding world taught me that anyone can overcome hardships in their life. Also, magic is pretty neat.
